Vibe Switch

Art Direction / Experience Design

background

Vibe Switch is all about highlighting people and their differences. The intent is to cultivate the opportunity for social growth and empathy in society through addressing and deflating stereotypes.

my role

I art directed an interactive pop-up installation that brought the Vibe Switch experience to a physical space. The focus was on getting people to break out of their comfort zones through simple activities that helped show how similar we all are when looking past our first impressions. To accomplish this we created a station-based pop-up installation that made participants team up with someone they had never met before to complete a series of challenges. In the middle of the experience was a chalkboard with varying challenges, and a side for participants to express how they are stereotyped versus who they actually are. It was featured at and executed during a St. Louis TEDx.

The Experience

Custom designed and hand-built pop-up installations. Included an assortment of buttons for participants to take home.

Using chalk, people illustrated themselves and were able to express which stereotypes they are subjected to versus who they actually are in reality. This gave people the opportunity to express themselves in front of strangers, more openly discuss their feelings, and help level the playing field.
